When to use a breast pump?

If possible, wait 2-4 weeks after birth to use a breast pump until the lactation process has settled down.
Exceptions to the above rule:

If you have too much milk, the breasts are engorged and hard. Expressing excess milk before or during breastfeeding will relieve the engorged breast and make it easier for the baby to latch on to the breast.
The nipple is hidden in the breast because of the long pause between breastfeeding.
You have recessed, flat or injured nipples (suction helps shape recessed or flat nipples).
If between feedings you feel a sudden engorgement of the breast and do not want to wake the baby.
The child is sick and cannot suck.
In case of low milk production - the use of a breast pump stimulates the activity of the mammary glands.
If you go back to work and do not want to interrupt breastfeeding - it is necessary to simulate the natural breastfeeding process by using a breast pump.
How often to pump with a breast pump?
If the mother cannot breastfeed, we recommend pumping 8 times a day. This will keep the lactation process at the right level. At first you may have problems pumping more milk, but after a few days you will have more milk. In stable lactation, the amount of milk pumped at one time ranges between 30-60ml, so multiple attempts will be needed to obtain one portion.

How to clean and sterilize the breast pump?
Before the first and each subsequent use, disassemble the pump into its individual parts. Thoroughly wash all parts of the breast pump and bottle/receptacle in warm water with a gentle detergent, rinse thoroughly and sterilize according to the instructions below.
For hygiene reasons, sterilise all parts of the breast pump and bottle/receptacle in boiling water for 5 minutes before first use.
For hygiene reasons, sterilize all parts of the suction unit and bottle/tray by pouring boiling water over them or in a steam sterilizer before each use.
Warning! After sterilization, wait until all parts have cooled down. Do not start assembly if the parts are warm or wet, as the extractor may not function properly.

How to clean and sterilize the teat?
Before the first and each subsequent use, wash the pacifier in warm water with a gentle detergent, rinse thoroughly and sterilize for 5 minutes in boiling water. Do not leave the pacifier in direct sunlight or near a heat source for longer than recommended in disinfectants - you may cause the pacifier to weaken. Do not use any chemical disinfectants. Check the pacifier thoroughly before each use, especially when the baby is already teething. Stretch the pacifier in all directions. At the first sign of damage or weakening of the material, replace the pacifier with a new one. Do not tighten the screw cap too tightly as the pacifier cannot vent properly. For safety and hygiene reasons, we recommend replacing the pacifier after a maximum of 3 months.

HOW TO DRINK MILK PROPERLY WITH THE BASIC DRAINER?
Before suctioning, wash your hands thoroughly and make sure that the suction unit is washed and sterilized (remember that the parts must not be warm or wet during assembly) and assembled according to the instructions above. Check the correct fit and tightness of the individual parts of the suction unit.

For effective pumping, use the breast pump between feeds, not immediately after feeding.
Before pumping, place a warm towel on the breast to encourage milk flow.
Sit comfortably. Do not pump when you are stressed or tired, these situations block the flow of milk.
Put the breast pump to the breast and make sure that the silicone massage pad fits snugly against the breast. A leak impairs the milk extraction process and the lever does not return to its original position during extraction. Do not take out the silicone massage insert, which stimulates milk flow.
A vacuum must be created to ensure proper suction.
If you want the milk to flow out of the breast faster, lean forward a little, but keep the bottle upright.
Always keep the bottle in an upright position so that the milk can flow freely to the bottom of the bottle.
At first, pump milk from each breast for only a few minutes. Don't expect to suck a full bottle immediately. Over time, the amount of milk pumped will increase.
If the milk stops flowing, put the pump to the other breast.
Remember that it takes about 10 minutes to express 60/120 ml of milk. There can be large differences in the amount of milk expressed at the same time.
When you have finished pumping, unscrew the pump body from the bottle, disassemble and wash all parts of the pump in warm water with a gentle detergent and rinse thoroughly. Dry on a clean towel or on a drip rack.

How to store expressed milk?

You can store the expressed milk in a bottle or special storage containers.
Freeze only freshly expressed milk. Never fill the bottle to the brim to increase the volume of milk during freezing.
Thaw frozen milk slowly in the natural way like other foods, never use the microwave. You can change the structure of the milk and deprive it of its valuable substances.
You can thaw frozen milk overnight in the fridge and then reheat it in a warmer or hot water.
Shake the milk to mix the separated fat.
Use the thawed milk within 24 hours. Keep the milk in the refrigerator for this time. NEVER refreeze thawed milk.
NEVER mix freshly expressed milk with thawed milk.
NEVER boil or heat frozen milk in the microwave.
ALWAYS check the temperature of the food being served.
Do not use unused thawed milk again.
